[Asia Economy Reporter Ji Yeon-jin] The number of small shareholders of Samsung Electronics increased by more than 850,000 in the first half of this year, approaching 6 million.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 16th, Samsung Electronics announced in its semi-annual report submitted on the same day that the number of small shareholders (with less than 1% stake) as of the end of June was 5,922,693. This is an increase of 856,342 from 5,066,351 at the end of last year.
This year, Samsung Electronics' stock price fell from the 70,000 won range at the beginning of the year to the 50,000 won range last month due to concerns over a slowdown in the semiconductor market, but individual investors net purchased more than 15 trillion won worth of Samsung Electronics shares in the first half of the year alone.
The number of Samsung Electronics employees reached a record high of 117,904. This is an increase of 4,419 from 113,485 at the end of last year. Samsung Electronics has been increasing its workforce through occasional hiring and the first half's open recruitment.
Looking at Samsung Electronics' sales composition by division, the DX division including TVs accounted for 59.7%, the DS division including DRAM and NAND flash 35.7%, the SDC (Display) division including OLED panels for smartphones 10.1%, Harman 3.6%, and others (after eliminating inter-division internal transactions) -9.1%.
The major customers were Apple, Deutsche Telekom, Qualcomm, Supreme Electronics, and Verizon, with these five companies accounting for about 15% of total sales.
In the first half, the executive compensation for Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and head of the DX division, was 2.072 billion won. Vice Chairman Han received 626 million won in salary, 1.415 billion won in bonuses, and 31 million won in other labor income (welfare benefits).
Kyung Kye-hyun, President and head of the DS division, received 990 million won. Kim Ki-nam, Chairman of the Comprehensive Technology Institute and former CEO of Samsung Electronics, received 3.264 billion won, Kim Hyun-seok, Advisor, received 2.078 billion won, and Ko Dong-jin, Advisor, received 2.612 billion won respectively.
