Namwon-si Successfully Concludes the 27th Sandong Residents' Day Event


[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk Province, announced on the 16th that the "27th Sandong Residents' Day" event was successfully concluded on the 13th at the Sandong Elementary School playground.


Held in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of Sandong Elementary School's founding, the event was organized by the Sandong Development Council and the Sandong Elementary School 100th Anniversary Promotion Committee, with about 1,000 attendees including hometown alumni and social and organizational leaders.


Sponsored by Sandong-myeon, the Sandong-myeon Hometown Association, the Sandong Elementary School Alumni Association, and Cheonhajeil Feed, the event included pre-ceremony activities, a commemorative ceremony, a unveiling ceremony, sports events, and harmony events, opening with an exciting performance by the Arang Gogo Janggu Team.


At the commemorative ceremony awards, Lee Chang-nam (Patriotism Award), Park Sung-im (Filial Piety Award), and Jeong Ki-ok (Longevity Award), who have devoted themselves to raising local honor and community development, received the Residents' Award.


The Multicultural Harmony Award was given to Ms. Gumma Beima Bidi, and plaques of merit and appreciation were presented to five individuals (two staff members and three residents) who dedicated themselves to the development and regional harmony of Sandong-myeon.


Additionally, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Sandong Elementary School, plaques of merit and appreciation were presented to five people, including Principal Kim Eun-hee of Sandong Elementary School, who contributed to local educational development, and through the unveiling of a monument, time was taken to honor the history of Sandong Elementary School spanning over 100 years.


In the sports events (Yutnori, Tuho, volleyball, ring toss), representatives from each village and the Sandong Elementary School Alumni Association came together, filling the venue with the enthusiasm of the players and the cheers of the residents. The harmony event became a place of unity for all Sandong residents with a splendid traditional Korean music performance by the Namwon City Traditional Music Orchestra.


For safety, the event thoroughly implemented quarantine measures to prevent COVID-19 infection, including constant availability of hand sanitizers and KF94 masks, and designated personnel to guide compliance with quarantine rules.


Sandong-myeon Chief Kim Kyung-sook, in her welcoming speech, expressed gratitude to all distinguished guests for attending despite their busy schedules and urged everyone to unite their efforts for a proud Sandong-myeon where all residents communicate warmly, care for each other, and harmonize.
