[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Sampyo Industry's Seongsu Plant completed demolition work on the 16th, closing its doors after 46 years.

Sampyo Industry began the demolition process sequentially in May, and on this day, all major facilities including batch plants 1 to 4 and silos (cement storage) were dismantled. Seongdong-gu plans to develop the demolition site area into a cultural tourism town.

Opened in July 1977, the Seongsu Plant was located on a spacious site of approximately 36,000㎡, equipped with five ready-mix concrete batching plants and accommodated about 1,200 mixer trucks. It produced up to 7,000㎥ of ready-mix concrete daily and up to 1.75 million ㎥ annually. Considering that typically 1㎥ of ready-mix concrete is required per 3.3㎡ (1 pyeong) of apartment space, this volume could build approximately 73,000 apartments of 79.3㎡ (24 pyeong) each, equivalent to eight Jamsil Lotte World Towers.

Yoon In-gon, CEO of Sampyo Industry, said, "The ready-mix concrete produced by the Seongsu Plant has been used in SOC, housing, and bridges, serving as the foundation for urban modernization and residential welfare stability. Behind this was the hard work of employees who quietly worked in unseen places, making this possible."
