Gift Sets Under 50,000 Won Account for 84%
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Ahead of this year's Chuseok, pre-order purchases of gift sets have significantly increased.
According to Emart on the 16th, sales from the Chuseok gift set pre-orders during the 15 days starting from the 21st of last month increased by 69% compared to the same period last year. The proportion of pre-orders in the total gift set purchases is also rising. The pre-order ratio was 33% during last year's Chuseok, but it jumped to 44% this year's Seollal.
The biggest advantage of pre-ordering is the discounted price. This year, Emart's Chuseok gift set pre-orders offer up to a 40% discount when purchased with promotional cards (a total of 14 types). Depending on the purchase amount, customers can receive gift certificates worth up to 1.5 million KRW. Among pre-order purchases until the 15th, gift sets priced under 50,000 KRW accounted for 84%.
Emart increased the number of practical gift sets under 50,000 KRW called ‘Limited Deal’ from 4 types last Chuseok to 11 types this year. The Limited Deal gift sets are limited edition value sets priced up to 40% lower than regular gift sets through bulk purchasing and advance stocking. For the first time, they also tried group purchase funding for gift sets that can be bought at up to 75% discount.
An Emart official said, “As the number of customers using gift set pre-orders gradually increases, we will strive to provide various benefits including affordable prices.”
