'Hunt' Approaching 2 Million Viewers
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actor Lee Jung-jae's directorial debut film 'Hunt' topped the box office in its opening weekend.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data on the 16th, 'Hunt' attracted 1,548,849 viewers over the four-day weekend (August 12-15), which included the Liberation Day holiday, securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 10th, the film's cumulative audience reached 1,949,929, nearing the 2 million mark.
The fortunes of four major films released by distributors this summer varied. 'Hansan: Rising Dragon' (director Kim Han-min), which opened on July 27 and held the weekend box office number one spot for two consecutive weeks, drew 1,017,096 viewers over the four days, ranking second at the box office. The film, which surpassed its break-even point with a cumulative audience of 6,156,600, continues to attract steady viewers and maintain its success.
During the same period, the aviation disaster film 'Emergency Declaration' (director Han Jae-rim) attracted 268,127 viewers, ranking third. Since its release on the 3rd, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 1,951,070.
Director Choi Dong-hoon's 'Alien+Human' drew 14,696 viewers, placing tenth. Since its release on July 20, a total of 1,525,159 people have watched the film.
The animated film 'DC League of Super-Pets,' released on the 10th, ranked fifth, and 'Octonauts: Above & Beyond,' released on the 11th, ranked seventh.
The total number of moviegoers over the four days including the weekend and Liberation Day was 3,400,548.
