Focused Assistance on Flooded Buildings in Affected Areas
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters announced on the 15th that it conducted emergency recovery activities in collaboration with the Seoul Volunteer Fire Brigade targeting areas affected by heavy rain.
Since the 12th, the Seoul Fire and Disaster Headquarters and the Seoul Volunteer Fire Brigade Association have been intensively supporting recovery efforts at flood sites in three districts?Dongjak-gu, Gwanak-gu, and Gangnam-gu?working alongside local fire stations to remove soil from damaged buildings and dispose of contaminants. A total of 704 volunteer firefighters have participated in supporting the affected sites since the heavy rain damage occurred.
This support was led by volunteer firefighters from unaffected areas and carried out regardless of their place of residence. For example, the Dobong-gu Volunteer Fire Brigade visited the Sangdo-dong area in Dongjak-gu to assist with cleaning flooded shops, and the Jongno-gu Volunteer Fire Brigade supported the Shindaebang-dong affected area. In total, the Seoul Volunteer Fire Brigade, consisting of 4,519 members, took part.
Choi Tae-young, head of the Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, “Due to concerns about heavy rain in the central region starting from the night of the 15th, we conducted emergency recovery efforts over the weekend together with the volunteer fire brigades. If life-threatening situations occur in vulnerable areas such as lowlands, we will proactively and swiftly deploy firefighting forces to do our utmost to prevent damage.”
