Virus Gene Sequence Matches Owner 100%... Shares Bed with Confirmed Owner
Pet Isolation Recommended to Prevent Transmission from Confirmed Case
[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] For the first time, a pet dog in France has been confirmed to be infected with monkeypox.
According to the British daily The Telegraph on the 14th (local time), two homosexual men aged 44 and 27 living in Paris were diagnosed with monkeypox in June.
Twelve days after their diagnosis, their Greyhound dog showed symptoms such as similar lesions and abdominal cysts. It is known that this pet dog shared a bed with its owners.
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test results confirmed that the dog was infected with monkeypox, and the virus's genetic sequence was 100% identical to that of the owners. This indicates that the virus was transmitted from humans to the dog.
Monkeypox is mainly transmitted through sexual contact between men, but there have been cases of infection through contact with bed sheets used by infected individuals or by sharing a bed.
Experts recommend that monkeypox patients isolate themselves from their pets to avoid transmission.
