[Asia Economy Reporter Hee-jun Jang] Im Sung-jae (24, photo) recorded a 'daily best' in the first round of the PGA Tour Playoffs (PO).

On the 13th (local time), Im Sung-jae shot 7 under par in the third round of the FedEx Cup PO first round, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (total prize money $15 million), held at Southwind TPC (par 70, 7,243 yards) near Memphis, Tennessee. Im Sung-jae made 1 eagle and 6 birdies while limiting himself to only 1 bogey. He climbed from a tie for 60th place the previous day to a tie for 8th place (9 under par, 201 strokes).

After warming up by exchanging a birdie and a bogey on holes 1 and 2, Im Sung-jae started gaining momentum by making an eagle on the 3rd hole (par 5). He added a birdie on the 8th hole (par 3), and in the back nine, he lowered his score significantly by making 4 birdies without any bogeys.

Kim Joo-hyung (20), who won the Wyndham Championship last week, recorded 7 birdies and 3 bogeys to rise to a tie for 17th place (8 under par, 202 strokes). Lee Kyung-hoon (31), who finished the second round in the 'top 10' the previous day, was satisfied with reducing his score by 1 stroke with 3 birdies and 2 bogeys. He is tied for 17th place.

Kim Si-woo (27), who started the first day tied for the lead, lost 2 strokes and dropped to a tie for 52nd place (3 under par, 207 strokes).

J.J. Spaun (USA) added 2 under par to maintain the top of the leaderboard (13 under par, 197 strokes). Sepp Straka (Austria) is in second place, 1 stroke behind (12 under par, 198 strokes). Cameron Smith (Australia), ranked 2nd in the world and caught up in LIV transfer rumors, is chasing in a tie for 3rd place (11 under par, 199 strokes) along with Will Zalatoris (USA) and others.
