[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] Kim Minwoong, a former professor at Kyung Hee University's Future Civilization Institute, who was indicted for disclosing the identity of the victim in the sexual violence case involving former Seoul Mayor Park Wonsoon, was sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial.
Judge Jang Minkyeong of the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 5, on the 12th, sentenced Kim, who was indicted without detention on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (confidentiality, etc.), to 6 months in prison with a 1-year suspension. Along with this, Kim was ordered to attend 40 hours of sexual violence treatment lectures.
Kim was indicted for exposing the real name of the victim by posting on his social networking service (SNS) in December 2020 a photo of a birthday congratulatory letter sent by the victim, who worked in the secretary's office during former Mayor Park's tenure, to Park between 2016 and 2018.
The court stated, "Considering the defendant's social status, it is sufficiently expected that the post would have wide dissemination and impact," and added, "Nevertheless, the defendant posted a message containing the victim's personal information, which indicates an intention to disclose the real name."
It continued, "The victim is appealing for severe punishment against the defendant, claiming secondary harm. The defendant's guilt is serious," explaining the reason for the sentencing.
