[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) secured an order for one LNG carrier immediately after the summer vacation ended.

On the 12th, DSME announced that it had received an order for one large LNG carrier worth 311.2 billion KRW from an Asian shipowner. This vessel will be built at the Okpo Shipyard and is scheduled to be delivered to the shipowner by the second half of 2026.

The LNG carrier ordered this time is a large 174,000 ㎥ class vessel equipped with a low-pressure dual-fuel propulsion engine (ME-GA) and reliquefaction facilities, making it an eco-friendly ship that can significantly reduce emissions of air pollutants. In fact, all 27 vessels ordered by DSME this year are dual-fuel propulsion ships.

Due to the global trend toward decarbonization and unstable external conditions, orders for LNG carriers are expected to continue increasing. DSME has already secured orders for 21 LNG carriers this year, surpassing last year's total of 15 vessels.

A DSME official said, “Based on our overwhelming technological capabilities, we continue to succeed in securing orders for high value-added ship types such as dual-fuel propulsion vessels. We will build the world's best premium ships to repay the trust of our shipowners.”

So far, DSME has secured a total of 29 vessels/units worth approximately 6.67 billion USD, including 21 LNG carriers, 6 container ships, 1 offshore plant, and 1 repair and maintenance vessel, achieving about 75% of its target of 8.9 billion USD.
