[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 12th that it will urgently provide 6.7 billion won in special grants to areas that suffered significant damage due to heavy rains centered around central regions such as Seoul and Gyeonggi Province since the 8th.
This special grant support is a measure to assist local governments with disaster recovery costs, including emergency restoration of damaged facilities and relief for disaster victims, such as safety measures for the collapsed retaining wall adjacent to apartment complexes in Dongjak-gu.
The scale of the special grant support was determined by comprehensively considering the extent of casualties and facility damage, the number of disaster victims, and equipment mobilization status by region. The regional support amounts are 2.8 billion won for Seoul, 2 billion won for Gyeonggi, 500 million won for Incheon, 400 million won for Chungbuk, 300 million won each for Gangwon and Jeonbuk, and 200 million won each for Sejong and Chungnam.
Minister Lee Sang-min said, “As the heavy rains continue and there is a high risk of additional damage due to ground weakening, local governments should promptly complete emergency restoration of damaged facilities,” adding, “We will do our best to provide administrative and financial support for emergency restoration and relief for disaster victims.”
