Free Repair for Flooded Electronics, Special Support for Flood-Damaged Vehicles
Samsung Donates 3 Billion KRW, SK 2 Billion KRW, and More Contributions Continue

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] As heavy rain accompanied by strong winds continues to cause casualties and damage to facilities across the country, major groups such as Samsung and SK are carrying out flood recovery activities, including free repairs of water-damaged appliances and special support for flood-damaged vehicles.


According to the industry on the 12th, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics visited the sites affected by the heavy rain to provide free inspections of submerged electronic products. LG Electronics established a service base in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, and dispatched service engineers.


Hyundai Motor Group is implementing a special support service for flood-damaged vehicles. Until the end of this year, for those without personal car insurance, repair costs will be discounted up to 50% within a limit of 3 million KRW when flood-damaged vehicles are brought in, and after repairs are completed, car wash services will be provided free of charge. If a rental car is used after bringing in a flood-damaged vehicle, 50% of the rental car cost will be supported for up to 10 days. Additionally, four mobile laundry relief vehicles and one disinfection relief vehicle will be deployed to assist with washing contaminated laundry and disinfecting affected areas.


Relief supplies are also being delivered. Samsung is providing 5,000 emergency relief kits containing bottled water, blankets, clothes, and towels to residents in affected areas, while LG is supplying 10 air purifiers and 10 Aero Towers each to the temporary shelter in Guryong Village, Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.


Hyundai Motor Group formed an emergency support team of employees to deliver basic necessities such as bottled water and ramen to affected areas. GS Retail provided emergency relief supplies consisting of lunch boxes, bananas, bottled water, and other food items to residents of Seocho-gu, who suffered significant damage from the heavy rain, through the Korean Red Cross.

Donations are also active. Samsung is donating 3 billion KRW through the National Disaster Relief Association, collected from eight affiliates including Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI. SK Group has decided to donate 2 billion KRW in disaster relief funds to the National Disaster Relief Association.


LG Group donated 2 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea. The recovery funds will be used for the rapid restoration of flood-affected areas and support for disaster victims. Hyundai Motor Group donated 2 billion KRW to the National Disaster Relief Association, and GS Group donated 1 billion KRW to the Community Chest of Korea. Hyundai Heavy Industries Group and Doosan Group also contributed 500 million KRW each to the National Disaster Relief Association to support flood recovery efforts.
