[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Chunsu Kim] The Mokpo Maritime Police Station announced on the 11th that they have caught Captain A, in his 50s, on charges of operating a vessel under the influence of alcohol (violation of the Maritime Safety Act).
Captain A is accused of violating the Maritime Safety Act with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.045% during a maritime police inspection while moving for fishing operations after drinking with the crew members.
On the 10th at 8:03 PM, the Mokpo Maritime Police received a report that vessel B, navigating near Dallido, Mokpo City, was suspected of drunk driving, and immediately dispatched a patrol ship to the scene.
The dispatched maritime police found vessel B at sea and conducted a breathalyzer test on Captain A, confirming a blood alcohol concentration of 0.045%, exceeding the Maritime Safety Act's drunk driving enforcement standard of 0.03%.
The maritime police plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the drunk driving with Captain A and punish him according to relevant laws.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "Operating a vessel under the influence at sea is a very dangerous criminal act that can lead to major accidents, so vigilance is necessary," and added, "We will do our best to establish maritime traffic order through continuous enforcement activities."
