President Yoon's Approval Rating at 28%, Disapproval at 65%
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] In the National Barometer Survey (NBS), President Yoon Suk-yeol's positive evaluation of his administration fell below 30%. Opinions that the economic outlook would worsen more than doubled in the survey conducted after two months, with nearly half of the respondents viewing it negatively. Negative evaluations also dominated in areas such as economic policy, quarantine measures, and trust in government administration.
According to the NBS released on the 11th by four polling agencies?Embrain Public, K-stat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research?the percentage of respondents who said President Yoon is managing the government well (very well + well) was 28%, while negative evaluations (very poorly + poorly) reached 65%.
In the biweekly NBS, President Yoon's approval rating was 54% in the first week of June but showed a downward trend afterward. Although it appeared to stabilize at 34% in the fourth week of July after hitting 33% in the second week of July, the declining trend in approval ratings continued. Compared to the previous survey, positive evaluations dropped by 6 percentage points, while negative evaluations rose by 9 percentage points.
Looking at age groups, negative evaluations were dominant across all age groups except those aged 70 and above. Regionally, negative evaluations surpassed positive ones in all areas, including Daegu and Gyeongbuk (TK), which had been considered President Yoon's core support regions.
Regarding the future outlook for the national economy, 16% of respondents said it would improve, while 46% believed it would worsen. Thirty-six percent expected no change. Compared to the previous survey conducted in the first week of June, the percentage expecting improvement dropped by 16 percentage points, whereas those expecting deterioration increased by 25 percentage points.
In questions about trust in government administration, 36% responded that they trust it, while 60% said they do not. Compared to the previous survey in the fourth week of July, trust decreased by 5 percentage points, and distrust increased by 7 percentage points.
Regarding the government's COVID-19 quarantine measures, 44% said they were being handled well, while 51% said poorly. Concerning economic policy, 30% responded positively, and 61% negatively.
This survey was conducted via telephone interviews from the 8th to the 10th, targeting 1,008 adults aged 18 and older nationwide. The sampling error was ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
