[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] Acting Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok (Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office) emphasized 'competence and integrity' to the members of the prosecution and urged them to conduct themselves in a way that earns the trust of the public.
On the morning of the 11th, Acting Prosecutor General Lee held the monthly executive meeting at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office and requested, "I hope you will do your best to investigate without any deviation from the standards of protecting the basic rights of the people, justice, and fairness."
He added, "The public's evaluation of the prosecution stems from 'competence and integrity.' Integrity without competence is hollow, and competence without integrity only breeds distrust. If integrity, which is a core value even more important than competence, collapses, the trust in the prosecution will immediately collapse as well, and the trust that has been built up over a long period will be destroyed in an instant."
Furthermore, Acting Prosecutor General Lee instructed to prepare for the enforcement of the 'Prosecution Service Act' scheduled for next month and to promptly handle election-related criminal cases for the 20th presidential election. He stated, "I hope you will prepare so that there is no confusion at the frontline before the enforcement of the revised law, respect the police's primary investigative authority and cooperate, but focus your capabilities on areas where prosecution investigation is absolutely necessary to ensure that there is no gap in protecting the basic rights of the people and responding to crimes."
He also emphasized, "Although the statute of limitations is about a month away, the handling rate of election-related criminal cases for the presidential election has not reached 60%, so please cooperate with related agencies to handle them promptly and base your decisions solely on evidence and legal principles without hesitation."
