Various Cultural Events to Be Presented in Connection with the Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gwangyang City, Jeollanam-do announced that it will hold the 28th Gwangyang Citizens' Day event this year on October 7 at the Gwangyang Public Stadium.
Gwangyang Citizens' Day is the first outdoor event held after four years since 2018, following the COVID-19 pandemic. It is promoted as a citizens' harmony festival to pledge the continuous development of the 8th elected administration, which was launched amid citizens' demands and expectations, and to foster citizens' hometown love and pride.
On the 10th, the city held a steering committee meeting at the city hall situation room, composed of Gwangyang Mayor Jeong In-hwa and heads of institutions and organizations, to gather opinions on the detailed plans for the Citizens' Day event.
The main event on October 7 will include the presentation of the Citizen Award and the Proud Gwangyang Citizen Award, the proclamation of the 8th elected administration's vision, health longevity exercises, performances by children and youth, traditional folk games, a cheerful sports day, singing contests, and sports competitions. It is planned as a citizens' harmony festival where citizens of all ages can participate and enjoy together.
Additionally, cultural and artistic events such as the Gwangyang Traditional Charcoal Grill Festival (October 7?9) and the Gwangyang Bay Area Harmony Family Concert (October 8), held before and after Citizens' Day, will be linked to create a festive atmosphere throughout the city.
Mayor Jeong In-hwa of Gwangyang said, "As this is the first outdoor event held since the launch of the 8th elected administration, we plan to prepare it as a festival where people from all walks of life, local artists, and youth can participate, unite, and enjoy together." He added, "We ask for much interest and participation so that citizens can take pride and confidence as Gwangyang residents."
Although Gwangyang Citizens' Day is officially designated as October 8, it will be moved to Friday, October 7, to allow more citizens to participate.
