From Changwon to the World! Shoot for Your Dream!
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced on the 11th that the "2022 Changwon Disabled Shooting World Cup" will be held at Changwon International Shooting Range for 11 days starting from the 15th.
Hosted by the World Shooting Para Sport and organized by the Korea Paralympic Shooting Federation, this competition will feature 236 athletes from 19 countries worldwide, competing in a total of 20 events in individual and team categories, with 120 gold, silver, and bronze medals to be awarded.
Starting with the arrival of the national teams on the 12th, equipment inspections and official training will follow on the 16th. The competition begins on the 18th, with events in 10M, 25M, and 50M categories including air rifle, air pistol, firearm rifle, firearm pistol, and shotgun continuing until the 24th. The tournament concludes on the 25th with the departure of the teams, marking a total of 11 days of competition.
This Changwon Disabled Shooting World Cup is not only the largest international competition following the Paralympics and World Championships but also an important event where athletes can achieve the MQS (Minimum Qualification Score) required to qualify for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.
The venue, Changwon International Shooting Range, opened in 1982 and has hosted several large-scale international competitions such as the ISSF Changwon World Cup and the World Shooting Championships, making it a "holy ground of shooting." The event was previously held in 2019 in the United Arab Emirates, Croatia, and last year in Peru, and through active consultations with the World Shooting Para Sport, Changwon Special City has taken over the baton.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, "We are very proud to host this festival of disabled athletes from around the world in our city," and added, "As the representative city of shooting sports in Korea, Changwon Special City will actively support the development of disabled sports and the strengthening of its international standing."
Meanwhile, considering the recent resurgence of COVID-19, strict quarantine measures will be implemented, including PCR testing upon arrival of the teams, distribution of self-test kits, continuous disinfection of the venue, temperature checks for entrants, and isolation measures for confirmed cases.
