[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 11th, Joo Ho-young, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, along with about 40 party members, participated in flood recovery volunteer activities. This was their first schedule since the formation of the Emergency Response Committee, visiting Dongjak-gu, Seoul, which was affected by the recent heavy rain. Ahn Cheol-soo, considered a frontrunner for the next party leadership, and former lawmaker Na Kyung-won were also present.
Chairman Joo appeared in front of the Sadang 2-dong Community Center in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, wearing a gray short-sleeve T-shirt, black long pants, and a red handkerchief around his neck. He said, "I would like to once again express my condolences to the flood victims and the people who suffered great damage," adding, "We will do our best to ensure that such unprepared disasters never happen again." He continued, "This is not just a one-time imitation; the People Power Party Central Disaster Countermeasures Committee is identifying party members who can be mobilized on a regular basis, so we will continue our activities."
Floor leader Kwon Seong-dong, who participated in the volunteer work, emphasized advancing the declaration of a special disaster area and expediting the completion of the deep underground tunnel in downtown Seoul. Kwon said, "The party and government have requested the government to immediately secure the budget for the tunnel in the Gangnam area," criticizing, "During former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon's administration, no budget was allocated, which significantly slowed down the construction speed."
