[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samyook University announced on the 11th that Jeong Taegun, chairman of the university's American scholarship foundation ‘Samyook University International Foundation’ (professor at Loma Linda University School of Medicine), donated $300,000 to the university development fund.
Chairman Jeong is the second son of the late female educator Professor Im Jeonghyeok. Professor Im graduated from Ewha Women's College (now Ewha Womans University) with a degree in English Literature and served as a professor at the university for nine years starting in 1934. After liberation, she joined Samyook Theological Seminary (now Samyook University) in 1952 and served for 20 years until 1972. Since 2002, Chairman Jeong has donated a total of 522.1 million KRW through scholarship funds, development funds, and construction funds. Last year, he took on the role of chairman of the ‘Samyook University International Foundation,’ the university's scholarship foundation in the Americas, and has been organizing development committees across the Americas to raise funds.
At the development fund donation ceremony on the 9th, Chairman Jeong said, "I hope the dedication to Samyook University passed down from my mother will continue as a family tradition through my children and grandchildren," adding, "I will strive to help the university's development and finances."
Meanwhile, Samyook University recently remodeled and reopened the on-campus Im Jeonghyeok Memorial Hall. The building was originally constructed in 1971 by Professor Im using her private funds as a home economics practice hall for the Department of Home Economics Education and had been used as a residence for several years. After the remodeling, it will be used as a VIP guest room going forward.
