Former Rep. Choi: "I have several 'Shin daughters and sons,' one of whom is Kim Geon-hee" statement
Reported in Feb at Kim's fan cafe
Police: "'Shin daughter' expression is not defamation"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The police have decided not to prosecute the case against former Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Min-hee, who was accused of raising suspicions about First Lady Kim Geon-hee, wife of President Yoon Seok-yeol, being a 'shinddal' (new daughter).
On the 10th, the Mapo Police Station in Seoul announced that on the 3rd, it concluded there was 'no charge' due to insufficient evidence regarding former lawmaker Choi, who was reported for violating the Public Official Election Act (spreading false information) and defamation by false statements, and decided not to prosecute.
On January 27, former lawmaker Choi appeared on TBS's "Kim Eo-jun's News Factory" and stated, "The character 'Geon' in Geonjin Beopsa's name and in Geon-hee's name match, and Geonjin Beopsa has several 'shinddal' or 'shindae' (new daughters or sons), raising suspicions that one of them might be Kim Geon-hee."
In response, in February, Lee Seung-hwan, the representative of Kim's fan cafe 'Geonsarang,' filed a complaint against former lawmaker Choi, stating, "The damage suffered by the victim, who is not even a public official, due to former lawmaker Choi's remarks is serious and clear, obstructing the rational judgment of the public and undermining fair election order, thereby infringing on social and national legal interests."
The police reportedly judged that former lawmaker Choi merely expressed her opinion regarding the suspicions related to the relationship between First Lady Kim and Geonjin Beopsa, and that the term 'shinddal' is not a word that defames honor.
