Proactive Response from Preliminary Special Warning Stage ... Best Efforts to Protect Residents' Lives and Property
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] On the 9th at 5 p.m., Gyeongbuk Province held an emergency countermeasure meeting at the provincial office to prepare for heavy rain.
The meeting was held to devise measures to protect the lives and property of residents amid rising tension due to the massive damage caused by heavy rain over two days starting from the 8th in the metropolitan area.
The meeting brought together related organizations including 23 cities and counties, 20 collaborative departments, Daegu Meteorological Office, Gyeongbuk Police Agency, and Gyeongbuk Office of Education to discuss response plans.
The attending organizations unanimously agreed to do their utmost to respond to the heavy rain to ensure no casualties occur under any circumstances.
According to the Meteorological Administration, due to the influence of a stationary front, heavy rain of 100 to 300 mm is forecast mainly in the northern region of Gyeongbuk until the 12th.
Accordingly, the province decided to enter an emergency stage starting from the preliminary advisory phase.
At the meeting, it was decided to take measures such as pre-inspection and announcement broadcasts to enable evacuation in areas where casualties are expected, including mountain valleys and campsites during the vacation season, landslide-prone areas, and low-lying flood risk zones.
Also, in case of damage, each organization and department will thoroughly respond according to the manual to prepare for heavy rain, including supporting residents' livelihood stabilization, emergency restoration of public facilities, traffic control, and resolution measures.
Kim Jung-kwon, Director of Disaster Safety at Gyeongbuk Province, said, “Learning from the casualties that occurred in the metropolitan area this time, let us proceed with proactive evacuation and response to ensure no casualties occur in the region,” and urged, “All organizations should assume the worst-case scenario and do their best in disaster preparedness and response.”
