[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gwiyeol] Gyeongbuk Province announced that the "Our Bowls National Contest," organized by the Gyeongbuk Ceramic Association, will be held for ten days starting from the 12th of this month.
This year, the Our Bowls Contest, the first nationwide ceramic contest held in Gyeongbuk, offers an opportunity to see the exquisite works of ceramic artists representing the region all in one place.
It is also expected to be a meaningful occasion to appreciate the excellence of our ceramic culture.
The contest accepted submissions from the 19th to the 22nd of last month, and the selected award-winning works were judged on the 28th of the same month, with the awards ceremony scheduled for the morning of the 11th at Atrium Mori.
A total of 166 participants entered the Our Bowls Contest, submitting 341 pieces of chawoorimi (teapots).
Among them, 132 works won awards: 1 Grand Prize, 1 Gold Prize, 1 Silver Prize, 1 Special Prize, 3 Bronze Prizes, 5 Encouragement Awards, 6 Special Selections, and 114 Honorable Mentions.
Lee Seung-baek’s "Cheonggaeguri Yeonrimun Teapot" was created using the yeonrimun technique, which involves making patterns with various colored clays, combining functionality and beauty, and was selected as the Grand Prize winner.
Additionally, Oh Soon-taek’s "Hyeonamho 2" won the Gold Prize, and Park Jong-hoon’s "Baekja Chawoorimi" was awarded the Silver Prize.
The list of awardees can be found on the Atrium Mori website.
Kang Seong-jo, Deputy Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said, “Thanks to the unexpectedly large number of ceramic artists participating in the first year, the contest could be held successfully. We plan to support the Gyeongbuk Ceramic Association again next year to continue hosting the contest to preserve and further develop the excellence of local ceramics.”
