Possible Exclusion of MB and Kim Kyung-soo from Pardon Draws Yoon's Criticism
"Forgive All and Walk the Path of National Unity"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] Hong Joon-pyo, Mayor of Daegu, directly criticized President Yoon Seok-yeol regarding the exclusion of politicians such as former President Lee Myung-bak and former Gyeongnam Governor Kim Kyung-soo from the August 15 special pardon list.
On the 10th, Mayor Hong wrote on Facebook, “Seeing that they are giving up on the August 15 grand pardon because the approval rating is at rock bottom, I cannot help but think they are trying to overcome the political situation in a passive and complacent way,” adding, “Is there any chance the approval rating could go lower? Isn’t the president’s implicit promise to the people more important?”
He continued, “This is a golden opportunity to declare to the public that all the cases committed during the Moon Jae-in administration’s investigation of deep-rooted evils should be completely cleared,” and pointed out, “At that time, you were with the prosecution, but now you are the president.”
Mayor Hong emphasized, “Pardons are not made by the prosecution’s standards but by political standards,” and said, “Forgive all and move toward greater national unity. That is politics.”
