Chungnam, 6 Food Handling Businesses Caught for 'E. coli Group Noncompliance' and Others

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 10th that it conducted a joint city/county inspection last month targeting food handling businesses in multi-use facilities during the summer season and identified 6 violating businesses.

The inspection was carried out on 224 locations, including food hygiene businesses in multi-use facilities such as beaches, water parks, and highway rest areas during the summer vacation season, as well as restaurants specializing in health foods.

The province found 4 businesses that had expanded their business area without reporting the change or failed to conduct health checkups for business owners and employees. These businesses received correction orders and fines.

Two instant sales manufacturing and processing companies producing products with unacceptable levels of coliform bacteria and bacterial counts were also identified during the inspection and were ordered to suspend operations.

The province requested the Chungnam Provincial Institute of Health and Environment to test 41 items sold by these companies, including beverages, cold noodle broth, soybean milk, and hamburgers, and the test results showed coliform bacteria and bacteria exceeding the standard limits.

Kim Eun-sook, Director of the Health Promotion Food Division of the province, stated, “We will make every effort to manage food safety so that violations of the Food Sanitation Act can be eradicated in the region through continuous joint hygiene inspections.”
