Kim Sung-jin's Side: "Actor Attended Lee Jun-seok's Third Drinking Party"... Final Investigation on 18th

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] The police completed additional questioning on the 9th of the CEO of a small and medium-sized enterprise suspected of providing sexual favors to Lee Jun-seok, former leader of the People Power Party. However, since the investigation was not thorough enough, further questioning is expected to continue on the 18th.

On the 9th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a witness interrogation of Kim Seong-jin, CEO of iKist, who is incarcerated at Seoul Detention Center, from 9:40 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lee is suspected of having received sexual favors from Kim at a hotel in Daejeon in July-August 2013 while serving as an emergency committee member of the Grand National Party (the predecessor of the People Power Party), and of receiving Chuseok gifts in 2015. According to Kim’s legal representative, lawyer Kang Shin-up, the police focused their investigation on the alleged entertainment that took place in 2014.

After the questioning ended in the afternoon, lawyer Kang told reporters, "Today, there were supplementary statements and submission of additional evidence regarding events in 2013, and statements were made about events that occurred in 2014."

Lawyer Kang added, "On January 9 of that year, Kim was invited to a program called Power Interview hosted by Lee Jun-seok, and there was a drinking party that evening, which included a famous baseball player," he said. He also said, "It was mentioned that there was a third drinking party on the 18th."

Lawyer Kang clarified, "The third drinking party on the 18th was not a sexual favor. The Director of the Public Policy Bureau of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance attended, and this gathering was an occasion where Kim introduced the Ministry’s director to Lee." He added, "Two actors also attended to liven up the atmosphere."

Meanwhile, the final questioning of CEO Kim is scheduled to take place on the 18th.
