Democratic Party Gwangju Regional Metropolitan and Basic Council Members Appeal for Support of Song Gap-seok

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju regional metropolitan and basic council members have come out in support of Song Gap-seok, the sole Honam candidate for the August 28 party convention and a Supreme Council member candidate.

On the 9th, they held a press conference in front of the Gwangju City Council, stating, "Gwangju and Honam are undeniably the heart of the Democratic Party and the helmsman steering the party toward victory," adding, "However, the public sentiment of Gwangju and Honam was thoroughly neglected in the last two party conventions."

They continued, "Every election season, while competing to claim the Honam stronghold, the result of sidelining Honam in central politics was two major defeats," emphasizing, "To revive the Democratic Party's heart in Honam, which has grown cold, a Honam representative candidate who reflects Honam's public sentiment must enter the party leadership."

Furthermore, they said, "For national balanced development and the completion of decentralized autonomy, the only non-capital region candidate must enter the party leadership," adding, "We strongly support the sole alternative, candidate Song Gap-seok, once again and appeal for the total mobilization of Gwangju Democratic Party members."

Meanwhile, candidate Song has declared himself as a "reliable candidate to protect the Democratic Party" and has thrown his hat into the ring for the new leadership.

He said, "I have not engaged in politics that pits specific factions or individuals against each other to grow in size, and I have no intention to do so in the future," adding, "I will be a Supreme Council member who speaks what needs to be said based solely on public sentiment, common sense, and principles."

He also emphasized representing public sentiment from all over the country to ensure that no one experiences exclusion, marginalization, or discrimination.

Candidate Song appealed for support, saying, "I will build a Democratic Party that prioritizes people's livelihoods and does not back down against the tyranny of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," and "I will restore common sense and principles to create a Democratic Party loved by the people and present progressive values and visions suitable for the changing times."
