1154m Four-Lane Seonso Bridge Opens...Significantly Improving Downtown Traffic Flow
'Water and Light' Romantic Night Sea, Rising as a Night View Attraction Alongside Soho Dongdong Bridge
[Yeosu=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Cheol-hoon] Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will hold the completion ceremony of the ‘Seonso Bridge’ and the lighting ceremony of the scenic lights at 7 p.m. on the 11th at the outdoor stage in front of Ungcheon Yeulmaru.
The event will begin with a congratulatory performance by the Municipal Gugak Orchestra, followed by a progress report, commendation of meritorious persons, greetings and congratulatory speeches, and then the scenic lighting ceremony.
About 200 people, including Yeosu Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong, National Assembly members Joo Cheol-hyun and Kim Hoe-jae, Yeosu City Council Chairman Kim Young-gyu, provincial and city council members, and citizens, are expected to attend the completion ceremony.
The ‘Ungcheon~Soho Road Construction Project’ (including Seonso Bridge), with a total project cost of 71.3 billion won, began construction in July 2018 and, after four years of work, will hold the completion ceremony on this day.
The road is a 1,154-meter-long four-lane road, with the asymmetrical curved pylon cable-stayed Seonso Bridge spanning 550 meters and the access road extending 640 meters.
In particular, after the city temporarily opened the bridge on June 20 and monitored traffic volume, it was found that about 15,000 vehicles per day are detouring via Seonso Bridge.
As a result, habitual congestion around the Ungcheon Ecological Tunnel during commuting hours has been resolved, and traffic flow in the urban area has greatly improved, receiving much positive response from citizens.
Gorgeous nightscape lighting that will decorate the romantic night sea will also be illuminated.
Scenic lighting has been installed on both sides of Seonso Bridge, the 65-meter pylon, and 26 cables.
Under the theme of ‘Romantic Night Sea of Water and Light,’ beautiful lights in green, blue, orange, and red, representing the four seasons, harmonize with the seawater to create a panoramic display.
The lights will be turned on at a set time after sunset every day and turned off at 1 a.m. the next day.
A city official said, “The opening of Seonso Bridge has greatly improved traffic flow in the urban area,” adding, “We have been concerned about the lack of tourist resources in the Yeocheon area, but we hope it will become a landmark of our local tourism where water and light harmonize, along with Soho-dong Dongdong Bridge.”
