[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 9th, the People Power Party held a party meeting and appointed five-term lawmaker Joo Ho-young as the Emergency Response Committee Chairman.

Yang Geum-hee, the floor spokesperson for the People Power Party, told reporters after the closed online party meeting, “At today’s party meeting, the recommendation of five-term lawmaker Joo Ho-young as the Emergency Response Committee Chairman was approved with 100% consent, without a single opposing member.” A total of 73 affiliated lawmakers attended the meeting.

When asked, “Were there any opinions on how Lawmaker Joo should lead the Emergency Response Committee or why he is suitable for the position?” Spokesperson Yang replied, “There was a process of gathering sufficient opinions from first-term, second-term, and lawmakers with three or more terms previously, and I understand that all those opinions were conveyed. Therefore, there were no additional comments on that matter.”

Additionally, Floor Spokesperson Park Hyung-soo said in response to the question, “What was Lawmaker Joo’s stance on the appointment as Emergency Response Committee Chairman?” that “Kwon Seong-dong, acting party leader and floor leader, proposed the position to Lawmaker Joo, and Joo said that if the party meeting agreed, he would accept it.”

Regarding the period and nature of the Emergency Response Committee, Spokesperson Park explained, “There was no discussion about this at today’s party meeting,” adding, “Regarding this matter, Acting Leader Kwon currently thinks it would be appropriate for Lawmaker Joo, who will newly assume the Emergency Response Committee Chairman position, to consult with the appointed committee members and listen to opinions from lawmakers and outside parties before deciding.”
