[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Landslide forecasts have been issued for 47 cities and counties nationwide.
The Korea Forest Service Landslide Prevention Support Headquarters announced on the 9th at 7 a.m. that landslide forecasts were issued mainly for the Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon regions.
Landslide forecasts are issued by local governments based on landslide prediction information provided at the eup, myeon, and dong levels, which analyze the amount of rainfall in the area and the soil moisture index indicating the soil's moisture content.
The prediction information is provided as a "Landslide Advisory" when 80% of the standard soil moisture level for each region is reached, and as a "Landslide Warning" when 100% is reached.
The areas currently under landslide warnings are 14 locations including Jung-gu and Gwanak-gu in Seoul; Namdong-gu and Bupyeong-gu in Incheon; Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, Gunpo, Icheon, Yeoju-si, and Yangpyeong-gun in Gyeonggi; and Chuncheon-si, Wonju-si, Hoengseong-gun, and Pyeongchang-gun in Gangwon.
Advisories have been issued for 33 locations including Yangcheon, Gangseo, Guro, Geumcheon, Dongjak, Seocho, and Songpa-gu in Seoul; Michuhol, Yeonsu, Bupyeong, and Seo-gu in Incheon; Uijeongbu, Dongducheon, Ansan, Goyang, Guri, Siheung, Uiwang, Hanam, Yongin, Paju, Anseong, Gimpo, Gwangju, Yangju, Pocheon-si, and Yeoncheon and Gapyeong-gun in Gyeonggi; Hongcheon, Jeongseon, and Cheorwon-gun in Gangwon; Eumseong-gun in Chungbuk; and Asan-si in Chungnam.
Kim Young-hyuk, head of the Korea Forest Service Landslide Prevention Support Headquarters, said, "The Korea Forest Service plans to conduct continuous safety inspections and emergency measures focusing on areas where accumulated rainfall has weakened the ground and landslides are a concern," and added, "Residents in areas where landslide forecasts have been issued are urged to refrain from entering the mountains and to be cautious of safety accidents."
