Memorandum of Understanding Signed for the Establishment of the 'Geomi Museum'
Over 400,000 Spider Specimens from Namyangju Jupil Geomi Museum to Be Donated to Damyang-gun
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] A Spider Museum will be established in Damyang-gun, Jeonnam.
On the 8th, the county signed a memorandum of understanding with Jupil Spider Museum for the creation of the 'Spider Museum.'
This agreement was made possible by the promise of donating materials from Jupil Spider Museum, which contains the lifetime collected and researched data of Professor Kim Jupil, the 'first spider doctor' in Korea who earned a Ph.D. through spider research.
According to the agreement, Namyangju Jupil Spider Museum will donate about 400,000 spider specimens, various taxidermy, fossil minerals, stalactites, and more, and Damyang-gun plans to promote the construction of the Spider Museum.
Dr. Kim Jupil said, “I hope the biological taxidermy specimens will be permanently preserved under excellent storage conditions,” and added, “I hope the Spider Museum, which will newly settle in Damyang, known for its excellent ecological environment, eco-friendly agriculture, and tourism policies, will become a place where people can experience and enjoy spiders, which play an important role in the environment.”
County Governor Lee Byeongno expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank Dr. Kim Jupil for entrusting us with valuable materials containing a lifetime of research,” and stated, “We will devote ourselves to the construction and management of the museum to create an ecological experience center where families can have new and diverse experiences.”
