Namwon-si Launches Safety Inspection Day Campaign

Namwon-si Launches Safety Inspection Day Campaign

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, recently announced on the 8th that it conducted the '317th Safety Inspection Day Campaign' themed on preventing safety accidents during freshwater snail (daseulgi) harvesting.

This campaign was promoted as part of preventive measures against the approximately 20 fatal accidents occurring annually in Jeollabuk-do related to daseulgi harvesting.

The city recorded 1 death in 2016 and 2 deaths in 2018 during daseulgi harvesting.

The inspection team, composed of Safety Inspection Day personnel, water play supervisors, and water safety management staff, conducted on-site inspections focusing on areas where fatal accidents had previously occurred.

The inspection team conducted accident area surveillance and checked the condition of safety accident prevention banners and warning signs in areas where fatal accidents had occurred.

Damaged warning signs will be repaired this month by selecting a contractor.

The city established a plan to promote safety accident prevention for daseulgi harvesting and posted safety accident prevention banners in areas with heavy daseulgi harvesting crowds such as the Yocheon riverside and water play management zones.

Patrols by water safety management personnel were strengthened around Yocheon and Gosoam, where the most recent fatal accidents occurred.

A city official stated, “Citizens should be careful not to enter deep areas excessively during daseulgi harvesting,” and added, “Especially during adverse weather conditions such as rain, we ask that you refrain from daseulgi harvesting to prevent safety accidents.”
