[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 8th, the Democratic Party of Korea filed a complaint with the prosecution against Prime Minister Han Deok-su, Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hae, and Board of Audit and Inspection Secretary-General Yoo Byung-ho on charges including abuse of authority.
On the same day, Representative Kim Seung-won and spokesperson Jo Oh-seop submitted the complaint to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, alleging that they abused their official authority such as the national administration control and supervision rights (Prime Minister) and audit rights (Chairman and Secretary-General of the Board of Audit and Inspection) to force former Korea Development Institute (KDI) President Hong Jang-pyo to resign before completing his legal term.
The Democratic Party stated, "Prime Minister Han publicly pressured former President Hong to resign during a press briefing on June 28 by saying things like 'He does not fit well with us,' effectively abusing his general authority granted to him through external and public resignation pressure."
Regarding Chairman Choi and Secretary-General Yoo, the party explained, "On June 27, under the pretext of monitoring audit targets, they sent an official letter requesting general status, accounting, and personnel-related documents to KDI. This revealed an intention to conduct an audit only three years after the usual 10-year audit cycle, aiming to force former President Hong to step down."
