[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The reading platform Millie’s Library announced on the 8th that it has upgraded its eye-tracking feature. Eye-tracking is a technology that tracks the movement of the pupils through the front camera to turn pages by following the gaze.
According to Millie’s Library, the existing eye-tracking feature was only applied to the ‘page turning’ mode, where the page turns sideways each time the screen is touched. However, with this upgrade, the eye-tracking feature can now be used in the ‘scroll’ mode, where pages can be continuously scrolled downward.
Millie’s Library was the first in the e-book sector to apply eye-tracking technology back in December 2020. The eye-tracking technology introduced in Millie’s Library is developed by VisualCamp, the only domestic eye-tracking software developer in Korea.
An automatic scroll feature that scrolls pages automatically at a speed set by the user has also been added. The automatic scroll mode continuously scrolls pages automatically at a playback speed set by the user according to their reading speed, similar to movie credits rolling. Speed adjustment is possible from 0.6x up to a maximum of 2.0x.
Nam Gi-hoon, Head of Technology Innovation at Millie’s Library, said, “While some readers turn pages one by one, many also read by scrolling downward, so we focused on improving usability and upgraded the eye-tracking feature. Since reading situations in daily life are diverse, Millie’s Library plans to incorporate various technologies to help users become unlimitedly familiar with reading in any situation.”
