[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] On the 8th, the Changwon Fire Headquarters in Gyeongnam awarded the ‘Golden Time 119’ prize to four citizens who contributed to preventing a large-scale fire through active response at the fire scene.
The honored citizens working at LG Electronics Smart Park are Moon Baek-gwan (53), Kim Gyu-hee (45), Byeon Jae-jeong (53), and Yang Tae-young (45).
On the 22nd of last month, around 3:05 PM, a fire broke out in a 25-ton truck at Namchangwon Station Intersection in Seongsan-dong, Seongsan-gu.
They sensed that the fire was serious and assisted Fire Sergeant Park Geun-hyeong, who was suppressing the fire on his day off, by using the outdoor fire hydrant at LG Electronics Smart Park to help with early fire suppression.
They also supported with two fire extinguishers from the building, greatly aiding Sergeant Park in extinguishing the initial fire.
Mr. Moon, who received the award that day, said, “I had previously been trained on how to use firefighting equipment, so I think I was able to help with early suppression without panicking when the fire occurred,” and added, “I only did what was natural, but I am grateful to receive such an award.”
Kim Yong-jin, head of the Changwon Fire Headquarters, said, “The early efforts of citizens can prevent a fire from becoming large-scale,” and added, “I feel proud and sincerely thankful that the citizens of Changwon can be safe because they risked their own safety to suppress the fire.”
