Jeon Nam-do Councilor Choi Seon-guk "Strengthening Environmental Education for Carbon Neutrality Success"

Jeon Nam-do Councilor Choi Seon-guk "Strengthening Environmental Education for Carbon Neutrality Success" Choi Seon-guk, Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Choi Seon-guk, a Jeonnam Provincial Assembly member (Democratic Party of Korea, Mokpo 1), stated on the 8th, "We must strengthen environmental education capabilities to succeed in carbon neutrality."

To lead carbon neutrality, Assemblyman Choi held a meeting on the 2nd with environmental education officials, including Lee Beom-woo, former head of Jeonnam Province's Climate Ecology Division, and Kim Gwang-chun, director of the Natural Environment Training Institute, to review the current status of environmental education.

Based on the discussions at the meeting, Assemblyman Choi plans to prepare an environmental education improvement plan and submit it to the Jeonnam Province Climate Ecology Division.

The main points of the improvement plan include the formation of an integrated and coordinating body for environmental education policies involving Jeonnam Province, Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, schools, environmental education centers, and private organizations; designation of a metropolitan environmental education center to serve as the command post for environmental education; enactment of environmental education ordinances in 22 cities and counties; and establishment of regional environmental education centers.

Assemblyman Choi pointed out, "The problem with Jeonnam Province's environmental education is the lack of leadership, making it difficult to provide integrated education on major provincial policies such as carbon neutrality," and added, "There is no regional environmental education center, which lowers residents' accessibility to environmental education and results in insufficient training and utilization of experts."

He continued, "The realization of carbon neutrality is possible only when all residents empathize with the climate crisis and take action to overcome it," and added, "I will do my best to prepare policy alternatives and ordinances so that environmental education can support this."
