Interference in Internal Affairs, Tolerating Separatist Forces, Deliberate Undermining of Taiwan Strait Peace
Chinese State-Affiliated Scholars Threaten Serious Crisis in Taiwan
[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Cho Young-shin] Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, fiercely criticized the U.S. political sphere for making three mistakes regarding Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, visiting Taiwan.
According to the state-run Xinhua News Agency on the 8th, Wang, who is visiting Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, stated that despite China's repeated warnings, Speaker Pelosi visited Taiwan, which he defined as interference in China's internal affairs.
Wang emphasized that Taiwan is not part of the United States but Chinese territory, and Pelosi's visit to Taiwan is a serious violation of China's sovereignty. He raised his voice, saying, "The principle of non-interference in internal affairs is a promise between countries," and "All countries must jointly uphold the basic norms of international relations and international law."
He stressed that the second mistake made by the U.S. was condoning Taiwan separatist (independence) forces. Wang pointed out that the ruling party in Taiwan, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), recklessly pursues independence, and the Speaker of the U.S. House publicly supported this.
Lastly, Wang claimed that the U.S. deliberately undermined peace in the Taiwan Strait. He argued that the U.S. is a country that first causes problems and then uses them strategically, asserting that the U.S. intentionally had Speaker Pelosi visit Taiwan to seize the opportunity to increase military power in the Taiwan Strait. He added that China's firm stance and future actions are just and legal.
Wang warned, "China will safeguard its sacred sovereignty and territorial integrity," and "China will block the U.S. attempts to control (check) China through Taiwan."
State-affiliated scholars also joined Wang's claims, suggesting that Pelosi's visit to Taiwan is likely to further escalate U.S.-China tensions.
Wang Suxian, Director of the Taiwan Research Institute at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said, "The U.S. is distorting and fabricating the One-China principle with shameless cards such as the visit card, arms sales card, legislative card, international cooperation card, and economic card," and raised his voice, "The U.S. must not send seriously wrong signals to Taiwan separatist (independence) forces."
Li Feng, Professor at the Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University, warned, "China will never tolerate the U.S. use of the Taiwan card," and "The U.S. must not embark on the dangerous path of trying to check China."
Zhu Songling, Professor at Beijing Union University, threatened, "The Taiwan DPP authorities are misjudging the situation and do not hesitate to provoke," adding, "This could bring serious harm to Taiwan and the Taiwanese compatriots."
