[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun announced on the 8th that the '2022 Gochang Mudflat Festival,' held from the 5th to the 7th at the Simwon-myeon Mandol Mudflat Experience Center area, concluded successfully.
The county estimated that a total of about 100,000 people visited during the event period. Despite adverse conditions such as COVID-19 and heatwaves, family groups with children flocked to the event, establishing it as a family-friendly experience festival.
This year's festival featured various programs such as mudflat experiences digging for Dongjuk clams, tasting and selling Pungcheon eel, the best summer health food, slippery bare-hand Pungcheon eel catching enjoyed by people of all ages, making sea jewels using marine debris, and observing halophyte plants under a microscope.
In particular, the 'Slippery Pungcheon Eel Catching' was very popular among children visiting the festival.
Also, newly introduced dishes like 'Dongjuk Seafood Ramen' and 'Clam Jeon' were delicious and affordable, attracting continuous visitors.
Throughout the festival site, shade nets and simple tables were installed, where tourists enjoyed the midsummer leisure with family, lovers, and friends.
The Gochang mudflat, where mudflats and sandy mudflats harmonize to form an ecosystem, was registered as a World Natural Heritage site last year.
A festival organizing committee official said, "The Gochang Mudflat Festival is not only an opportunity to appreciate the importance of natural ecology but also a joyful event where you can enjoy delicious dishes made from fresh ingredients. We will improve the shortcomings of this year and strive to become a representative West Coast seafood festival next year."
