[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] It is the victory of world No. 34 Kim Joo-hyung (20), a ‘special temporary member.’

On the 8th (Korean time), Kim Joo-hyung finished the final day of the Wyndham Championship (total prize money $7.3 million), the final regular season event of the 2021/2022 PGA Tour, held at Sedgefield Golf Club (par 70, 7,131 yards) in Greensboro, North Carolina, USA, by shooting 9 under par over 26 holes to complete a come-from-behind victory (20 under par 260). This is his first win in 9 tournaments this season and his 15th PGA Tour event overall. As his prize, he received a PGA Tour card along with $1,314,000 (1.7 billion KRW) in prize money.

Kim Joo-hyung became the ninth Korean player in history to win a PGA Tour event, following K.J. Choi (52, 8 wins), Yang Yong-eun (50, 2 wins), Bae Sang-moon (36, 2 wins), Noh Seung-yul (31, 1 win), Kim Si-woo (27, 3 wins), Kang Sung-hoon (35, 1 win), Im Sung-jae (24, 2 wins), and Lee Kyoung-hoon (31, 2 wins). He is the first to win as a ‘special temporary member.’ Kim will compete in the first round of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, the FedEx St. Jude Championship (total prize money $15 million), held at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, on the 11th.

On the previous day, Kim exchanged one birdie and one bogey over 10 holes that were not completed due to sunset, then in the 4th round, he recorded one eagle and eight birdies (one bogey). He shot three consecutive birdies from holes 2 to 4, followed by an eagle on the 5th hole (par 5) and a birdie on the 6th hole (par 4), reducing six strokes over the first six holes. After that, he gained momentum with consecutive birdies on holes 8 and 9, steadied himself with a bogey on the 10th hole (par 4), and then added consecutive birdies on holes 15 and 16, pulling far ahead from his competitors’ pursuit.
