Large Swarm of Jellyfish Appears at Busan Beach... Over 30 Stung

According to the 119 Lifeguard Service on the 7th, around 8:30 a.m. on the 6th, about 50 Nomura's jellyfish, with tentacles reaching up to 3 meters, appeared in the sea in front of Imrang Beach in Gijang-gun.

It was reported that about 20 of the jellyfish that appeared were adult-sized.

On that day, 39 beachgoers were stung by the jellyfish and received on-site first aid using saline solution.

The lifeguard team collected the jellyfish that drifted ashore using nets, and the collected jellyfish will be disposed of through Gijang-gun.

Nomura's jellyfish, which have strong toxicity, are large jellyfish that can grow up to 1 meter in diameter and weigh up to 200 kg. They not only cause stings to beachgoers during the summer but also lead to fishing gear damage, fishing losses, and reduced marketability of catches.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the National Institute of Fisheries Science issued a warning for the Nomura's jellyfish caution stage across the entire waters of Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do, and Gangwon-do on the 27th of last month.
