[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Emart24 will start selling two types of Coffee Bureum Cookie Sandwiches (Vanilla Butter Sand, Coffee Choco Sand), which go well with coffee, from the 8th of this month.
According to Emart on the 7th, the products being sold this time are cookie sandwiches with vanilla cream and coffee cream respectively placed between two butter and chocolate cookies. As the name 'Coffee Bureum' suggests, the product is themed as a 'dessert that reminds you of coffee.'
Emart24 introduced four types of cream-filled dessert products this year. In fact, all four cream desserts ranked within the 'Top 10' in dessert product sales in the first half of this year.
The 'Fresh Cream Brioche' (3,900 won), launched earlier this year, is a product inspired by the traditional Italian dessert bread Maritozzo, filled with condensed milk fresh cream inside a buttery brioche bread.
The Milk Fresh Cream Donut and Custard Cream Donut (each 2,600 won) are made without water, using French flour, milk, and eggs, allowing customers to enjoy the deep flavor and rich volume unique to Berliner donuts, as well as a soft chewing texture.
The 6cm tall, voluminous Berliner dough is filled with an average of 60g of sweet milk fresh cream and rich custard cream, making more than half of the total bread volume filled with cream.
The most popular product is the 'Cream Red Bean Bread.' Emart24 collaborated with 'Geundae Golmok Danpatbbang,' one of the three famous bakeries in the Daegu area, to launch this product. It is filled with traditional handmade red bean paste and whipped cream favored by younger consumers.
Emart24 analyzes that the popularity of cream-rich desserts is partly due to the trend of posting 'bangalshot' (photos verifying the contents by cutting the bread in half) on social media, along with the popularity of convenience store instant coffee.
In fact, Emart24's Big Data and AI team analyzed related purchases of instant coffee last month and found that the top five were ice cups, desserts, bread, sandwiches, and bottled water, respectively. Emart24 concluded that the number of customers purchasing desserts along with coffee has increased.
Kim Yeonsu, partner of Emart24 Dessert Food Team, said, “Since last year, dessert products with large sizes and rich fillings have gained popularity, especially in cafes. Cream desserts that allow you to bite into a mouthful of cream provide visual enjoyment and have become a hot topic on social media. Convenience stores are also reflecting this trend by offering various dessert products filled with high-quality cream instead of the plant-based cream commonly used in mass-produced bread,” she explained.
