[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] As the peak summer vacation season begins, safety accidents are occurring one after another at tourist spots. Following a paragliding crash in Danyang, Chungbuk, concerns over safety accidents during the vacation season have increased, including incidents where vacationers enjoying water activities have drowned. The fire authorities have urged special caution.


According to the Chungbuk Fire Headquarters on the 6th, at around 1:07 PM the previous day, a paragliding accident occurred at the paragliding launch site in Sapyeong-ri, Gagok-myeon, Danyang-gun. The accident happened because the wing did not open properly. A man in his 30s who was seriously injured in the accident was transported to a hospital and is currently receiving treatment.


At around 11:37 AM on the same day (the 5th), another paragliding accident occurred at the same location. The paraglider got caught in a tree while taking off. A woman in her 50s lost her balance and fell, injuring her face and other areas, and was transported to a hospital. Earlier, on the 3rd, a man in his 50s paragliding near Hyangrosan in Muju-eup, Muju-gun, Jeonbuk, made an emergency landing near the Geumgang riverbank and died in the accident.


Such safety accidents are also occurring at beaches. On the coast of Ulleungdo, a vacationer enjoying water activities drowned. According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Headquarters on the 1st, at around 11:52 AM on the 31st of last month, a vacationer in his 40s who was snorkeling at the coast of Guam Village, Seomyeon, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk, drowned and died. On the 28th of last month, a tourist who was filming with a drone to capture the scenic views of Ulleungdo became stranded on a cliff but was rescued by firefighters.


In this regard, the fire authorities stated, "As the peak summer vacation season begins, crowds seeking to enjoy leisure sports are gathering, leading to an increase in related accidents," and urged, "Please be careful of safety accidents."
