North Ministry of Foreign Affairs: "Pelosi Leaves Trouble Wherever She Goes"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Regarding Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, visiting Panmunjom during her trip to South Korea and emphasizing a "strong deterrence against North Korea," North Korea on the 6th criticized that it "revealed the U.S.'s hostile policy stance toward North Korea as it is."
On the same day, the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through a statement by Director of the Press Department Jo Young-sam, said, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency, "Pelosi, who visited Taiwan and destroyed regional peace and stability, receiving China's rightful counterattack, stirred up an anti-Republic of Korea confrontation atmosphere while visiting South Korea."
It added, "Pelosi, together with South Korean officials, talked about a 'strong and extended deterrence' to cope with the 'North Korean threat' and even intruded into the Joint Security Area in Panmunjom, openly revealing the current U.S. administration's hostile policy stance toward North Korea."
Furthermore, it claimed, "This includes a sinister intention to drive the current South Korean conservative ruling forces into confrontation with their own kin, further intensifying the already acute situation on the Korean Peninsula and in the region, and using that as a pretext to justify their outdated hostile policy toward North Korea and reckless military buildup maneuvers."
It also stated, "If Pelosi thought she could be safe on the Korean Peninsula, that was a miscalculation," adding, "The U.S. will have to pay dearly for the troubles buried wherever Pelosi goes."
Pelosi, who arrived in South Korea late in the afternoon on the 3rd, held talks with National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo the next day at the National Assembly, announcing that both countries agreed to strengthen their strategic alliance and support government efforts for North Korea's denuclearization through strong deterrence against North Korea. After the talks, she also visited Panmunjom.
