[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] On the night of the 5th, the Taiwan Ministry of National Defense announced on the 6th that it had chased away seven drones flying over Kinmen (Jinmendao) Island and unidentified aircraft over the Matsu Islands.

According to major foreign media on the day, the Taiwanese military used flares to warn, and it is known that a high state of alert was maintained in both areas.

Following U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, China's 'Taiwan encirclement' military demonstrations have continued, with Chinese military drones repeatedly appearing over Kinmen Island and the Matsu Islands.

Kinmen Island is only 3.2 km away from Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China, but has been effectively controlled by Taiwan since the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, making it the frontline of Taiwan's security.

Like Kinmen Island, the Matsu Islands are far from Taiwan's main island and are Taiwan's frontline facing China, located very close to the coast of Fujian Province. Among the Matsu Islands, Dongyin Island is 16 km away from Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.

The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense also announced that on the night of the 3rd, it warned and drove away Chinese military drones flying over Kinmen Island. This was shortly after Speaker Pelosi completed her visit to Taiwan and left for South Korea.

The Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that since the Taiwan Strait crises in the 1950s, no Chinese military aircraft had flown over Kinmen Island.

On the other hand, drones and aircraft presumed to belong to the Chinese military have often appeared over the Matsu Islands.

Taiwan believes that the Chinese drones and aircraft flying over these islands are collecting information on the combat readiness posture of the Taiwanese military in the area.
