[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 5th, Foreign Minister Park Jin held a brief meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Tony Blinken in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held.
On that day, Minister Park met with Secretary Blinken for about 25 minutes at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh, and told reporters, "I explained our position regarding relations with China and Japan as we establish the Indo-Pacific strategy."
When asked whether they discussed the U.S.-China conflict over the Taiwan Strait and the semiconductor supply chain cooperation dialogue proposed by the U.S., known as Chip 4, he replied, "We had a very productive discussion on various issues."
Minister Park also said, "We talked about how to respond to North Korea's nuclear and missile threats."
After the meeting, Secretary Blinken expressed satisfaction, saying, "Our alliance is a cornerstone of peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region," and "There was a good discussion on key agendas, including several challenging issues related to regional peace and stability."
Secretary Blinken added that they also discussed Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the situation in Myanmar, saying, "There was deep concern about these issues, and as always, the two countries closely coordinate on these matters."
This was the fourth meeting between Minister Park and Secretary Blinken since Minister Park took office in May.
