The Moment I Took a Bite of Yonsei Cream Bread... "Oh? I Like Cream Bread" [Im Chunhan's Convenience Store Adventure]

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] "All the Yonsei Cream Breads are sold out. It would be more convenient to make a reservation purchase rather than going around to several places."

Recently, I went looking for the Yonsei Cream Bread, which has been causing a sold-out frenzy, on my way home from work. Thinking "there might be at least one left," I checked several CU stores near Sillim Station, but there were no products left. I was advised that it would be better to make a reservation purchase through the Pocket CU application (app) at the store, so I immediately did so. I was able to buy the milk, red bean, and melon flavors, but the chocolate flavor was not available for reservation. Two days later, I picked up the product at a CU near my home.

The Milk Fresh Cream Bread is a premium dessert filled with soft and sweet cream made from Yonsei Milk inside fluffy bread. All products in this series contain a generous filling, with fresh cream making up about 80% of the total weight. Although I usually do not prefer cream bread because I find it greasy, the overflowing cream when I cut the product in half was very impressive. In fact, Yonsei Cream Bread started gaining popularity as customers voluntarily posted “half-cut shots” (photos showing the inside of the product after cutting it in half) on social networking services (SNS).

The Milk Fresh Cream Bread had an exquisite soft fresh cream flavor, and despite being a refrigerated product, the bread was also soft. It was of such high quality that it was hard to believe it was convenience store bread, and it was comparable to bread from specialty bakeries. After taking a bite, I suddenly thought, "Oh, I like cream bread." The Red Bean Fresh Cream Bread had a harmonious taste of fresh cream and sweet red bean paste. The red bean paste balanced the fresh cream, which could otherwise feel greasy. The Melon Fresh Cream Bread was topped with a crispy melon cookie, making its color and texture different from the other breads. Inside the bread was a rich melon custard cream to enhance the melon flavor. It felt like the ice cream Melona was recreated as bread.

Since its launch, the Yonsei Cream Bread series has surpassed 7 million units in cumulative sales. Looking at last month's dessert sales rankings, Yonsei Cream Bread took the top four spots. As sold-out situations continued at stores, customers making advance orders through Pocket CU reservation purchases increased by 183% compared to the previous month. Thanks to the success of Yonsei Cream Bread, CU's dessert sales increased by 196.5% year-on-year. The Yonsei Cream Bread series accounts for 60% of total dessert sales.
