Eight Local Textile Companies Participate, Opening the Path for Fashion Hallyu's Entry into New York
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Textile companies in Gyeonggi-do achieved 1,584 export consultations worth a total of 9.5 million USD at the 'Americas Export Roadshow' held in New York, USA.
The Gyeonggi-do government and the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency announced on the 8th, "Eight promising textile companies from the province participated in this year's export roadshow held for a week from the 13th of last month, conducting one-on-one consultations with over 20 local buyers, including fabric buyers and apparel company designers."
As a representative case, Camp Ribbon Co., Ltd., a clothing production and development company located in Hanam-si, held contract consultations worth a total of 3 million USD with the local New York women's boutique shop 'Clara Sunwoo.'
Camp Ribbon emphasized that professional designers are in charge of management and design, and that they supply various products to government and public institutions.
In response, Clara Sunwoo agreed to the contract due to the recent need for collaboration with Korean companies benefiting from the Korea-US Free Trade Agreement (FTA) tariff advantages.
In particular, Clara Sunwoo has about 4,000 clients in the US and Canada, raising expectations for Camp Ribbon to develop sales channels in the Americas region in the future.
Joojin Cho, CEO of Camp Ribbon, stated, "Since the fashion industry is a high value-added industry that will sustain the Gyeonggi-do regional economy in the future, I hope for more support and benefits."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Textile Marketing Center (GTC) New York branch discovered excellent buyers at this consultation event, matched them with local companies, and provided interpretation support.
GTC, which serves as an 'export assistant' for textile companies in the province, currently operates three overseas branches (LA, New York, Shanghai) and three marketing bases.
No Tae-jong, Director of the Specialized Enterprise Support Division of the province, said, "Recently, global buyers have shown great interest in Korea's high-quality fabrics," adding, "We will prepare various support measures that companies need to maximize the profits of textile companies in the province by utilizing such opportunities."
