[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Gui-yeol] On the 3rd, Lee Dal-hee, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of Gyeongbuk Province, held a 'POSTECH Research-Oriented Medical School Establishment Promotion Meeting' at the POSTECH main building conference room with Pohang city officials, Ban Chang-il, Dean of POSTECH Graduate School, and Professor Kim Cheol-hong of the Department of IT Convergence Engineering.
At the meeting, concrete discussions were held to promptly promote the establishment of a POSTECH research-oriented medical school and smart hospital, including medical education programs, securing private funding, and cooperation plans with the local medical community.
Gyeongbuk Province has achieved concrete results, including the training of physician-scientists as part of the new government's national bio-health industry development agenda.
Accordingly, efforts have been continuously made to build consensus across various sectors on the necessity of establishing a POSTECH research-oriented medical school.
Through the launch of a promotion committee composed of political, academic, medical, and economic sectors and a vision proclamation ceremony, the establishment of the research-oriented medical school has been actively publicized, and support is being provided for successful policy promotion, including recommendations to related ministries for increasing the quota.
Deputy Governor Lee Dal-hee said, “Local competitiveness is national competitiveness, and training physician-scientists is paramount to securing national bio-health industry competitiveness,” and urged, “Please make more active efforts to build consensus within the local medical community regarding the establishment of the research-oriented medical school.”
