[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The Presidential Office stated on the 3rd regarding Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, beginning her East Asia tour with a visit to Taiwan, "We hope Speaker Pelosi's East Asia tour proceeds smoothly as scheduled. We also welcome her visit to Korea and hope for many achievements through consultations between the Speakers of the National Assemblies of Korea and the U.S."

A Presidential Office official said at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office that tensions between the U.S. and China have intensified due to Pelosi's visit to Taiwan. When asked how the Presidential Office views her visit to Korea following the Taiwan visit, the official responded accordingly.

The official added, "Our government maintains the position that peace and stability in the region require dialogue and cooperation, and we intend to keep close communication with regional parties on various issues."

When asked if there is a schedule for President Yoon Suk-yeol to meet with Speaker Pelosi during her visit, the official said, "Since Speaker Pelosi's visit to Korea coincided with President Yoon's vacation, no meeting with the President was scheduled," and added that there are no separate meeting plans with other Presidential Office officials either. President Yoon is currently on his first summer vacation for five days starting from the 1st.

The official further stated, "Speaker Pelosi is expected to visit the National Assembly and hold talks and a luncheon with Speaker Kim Jin-pyo." Speaker Kim is scheduled to meet Pelosi at the National Assembly on the 4th for about 50 minutes to discuss various issues including security in the Indo-Pacific region, economic cooperation, and the climate crisis, followed by a joint press conference.
