Shinan-gun Jaeundo Selected for 13.8 Billion KRW Investment Leading District by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport

Establishment of a Premium Island Base Linked to 'Geo International Culture and Tourism Complex' Nationwide at One Location

Shinan-gun Jaeundo Selected for 13.8 Billion KRW Investment Leading District by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport

[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, has been selected as a ‘2022 Regional Development Investment Leading District’ hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Sinan-gun aimed to develop into a premium island and marine tourism city that promotes regional tourism development through large-scale private investment, blending culture, arts, and four-season healing. Since 2020, it has prepared a project plan and was finally selected this year as the sole nationwide winner through a public contest.

The county secured a total project budget of 13.8 billion KRW by 2026 to foster growth bases in the underdeveloped and poor island areas and to activate private investment.

The newly selected ‘Jaeun Geo International Cultural Tourism Complex Investment Leading District’ is a project with a total budget of 283.8 billion KRW, linking excellent recreational resources such as the Ramada Sea One Resort, which opened on June 18, and Baekgil and Myeonjeon beaches. It will be promoted with 7.8 billion KRW in national funding.

The main projects include expanding and paving access roads and improving the surrounding environment. In the future, with 6 billion KRW in local government funds and ongoing private investment of 270 billion KRW by Geo Group Co., Ltd., the goal is to develop an international leisure tourism complex that can coexist with local residents.

A Sinan-gun official expressed gratitude, saying that the selection for this public contest project was the result of active participation and cooperation from Jeollanam-do officials, including Seo Sam-seok, the local district member of the National Assembly.

County Governor Park Woo-ryang stated, “By establishing a living SOC (Social Overhead Capital) foundation, we will focus on increasing cultural and welfare services and generating income for residents. We plan to develop Jaeun-myeon into a representative island tourism and leisure city on Korea’s southwest coast by attracting international cultural exchange art events and building various marine leisure infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, Jaeun-myeon is the central area of Sinan-gun. Despite attracting many visitors annually with various surrounding tourist resources such as the opening of Cheonsa Bridge, 1004 Museum Park, the World Shell Museum, Su-seok Park, Dunjang specialized village, and over 60 sandy beaches, it is an area urgently needing improvement due to outdated and poor infrastructure.
