What Stories Lie in the Sea? ... Pukyong National University Hosts Unique Humanities Event 'Dosirak Haeyeok Humanities Festival' Participants of the 'Dosirak Marine Humanities Festival' are taking a group commemorative photo.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Dooyul] The Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) Project Group at Pukyong National University held the "Dosirak Marine Humanities Festival" on the 31st in the Gijang-gun area of Busan.

The event was held to provide an opportunity to directly experience sites featured in films and plays set against the backdrop of the Busan sea.

Twenty-eight adult literacy learners from the Busan Seongji Cultural Center participated and experienced various programs.

The event included ▲ a lecture by Park Yoonhee, CEO of Soyouyu Publishing, titled "Exploring the Busan Gijang Sea in Films and Plays" ▲ exploration of the Gijang sea area including Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and Jukseong Drama Set ▲ and the play "The Sea of Sakhalin," which tells the story of Sakhalin Koreans residing in Gijang, Busan.

On the 20th, a program including a lecture by Choi Eunhwa, director of Seongji Cultural Center, for marriage immigrant women from the Busan Seongji Cultural Center, as well as visits to Ulsan Jangsaengpo Whale Museum and Whale Culture Village, is scheduled.

The Pukyong National University HK+ Project Group holds the "Dosirak Marine Humanities Festival" in cooperation with local educational institutions to allow vulnerable groups to experience marine humanities.

The festival had been conducted in a non-face-to-face or scaled-down format due to COVID-19 but switched to an experiential activity format this year.

The Pukyong National University HK+ Project Group has developed and offers free programs such as the Dosirak Marine Humanities Festival, Youth Marine Humanities, and Pukyong Marine Humanities University, which combine the unique maritime characteristics of the Busan region with humanities.
